Symptoms
General:
- Weight Loss
- Poor coat condition
- Foul odour out of the mouth
- Sensitivity in the area of cheek or joint
- Choking
- Cribbing
- Colic
- Long particles in feces (longer than 2-3mm)
- Bumps on jaw or face
- Discharge in eyes, ears or nose
- Mares unable to reach estrous cycle
- Stallions unwilling to breed
Performance:
- Bad general attitude
- Bending problems (especially one-sided)
- Tilting head while riding
- Tossing head while riding
- Tongue hanging out while riding
- Opening the mouth while riding
- Charging at the bit while riding
- Refusing to accept bit
- Refusing to change leads
- Refusing to collect
- Rearing
- Change in performance from normal
Feeding habits:
- Irregular jaw movement while eating
- Wide opening of the mouth in between chewing
- Eating hay before grain
- Padding hay between cheek and teeth (hamster cheeks)
- Tilting head while eating
- Dropping excessive grain
- Balls of hay falling out of the mouth
- Unusual drinking habits
Health and fertility:
