Symptoms

General:

• Weight Loss
• Poor coat condition
• Foul odour out of the mouth
• Sensitivity in the area of cheek or joint
• Choking
• Cribbing
• Colic
• Long particles in feces (longer than 2-3mm)
• Bumps on jaw or face
• Discharge in eyes, ears or nose
• Mares unable to reach estrous cycle
• Stallions unwilling to breed

Performance: 

• Bad general attitude
• Bending problems (especially one-sided)
• Tilting head while riding
• Tossing head while riding
• Tongue hanging out while riding
• Opening the mouth while riding
• Charging at the bit while riding
• Refusing to accept bit
• Refusing to change leads
• Refusing to collect
• Rearing
• Change in performance from normal

Feeding habits:

• Irregular jaw movement while eating
• Wide opening of the mouth in between chewing
• Eating hay before grain
• Padding hay between cheek and teeth (hamster cheeks)
• Tilting head while eating
• Dropping excessive grain
• Balls of hay falling out of the mouth
• Unusual drinking habits

Health and fertility:

• Cribbing
• Colic
• Choking
• Mares unable to reach estrous cycle
• Stallions unwilling to breed
