Still to this day you will hear the sentence from horse owners:
“My horse hasn’t got any problems, it’s still eating ok.”
However, studies show that most horses (ca. 90%) have dental problems. Unfortunately it is the nature of a flight animal not to show, if possible, when they are in pain; showing pain would put them at the top of a predator’s menu.
Horse dentistry is an ancient trade that is being rediscovered. While the original wild horses could use self-help mechanisms to deal with dental imbalances, today's domesticated horses can't. But healthy and balanced teeth are crucial for the horse's health, well-being and performance. A main task in the field of horse dentistry is to further raise the awareness of the importance of regular dental care.
As horse owners it is our responsibility to ensure that our horses can lead a healthy and pain free life.
Thank you very much on behalf of your horse for trying to find out more about this complex and important aspect of your horse’s health and well being.
